Note:  
In Autocad, PIPING (natural gas, fire, steam, ...)  and PLUMBING (Toilets, sinks, hot & cold water pipes) are VERY different.

For Autocad, and I think also for REVIT, the big assist is:

PIPING:  quick drawing and interference checking.

PLUMBING:  bill of materials / parts inventory (counts the toilets, etc.)

Autocad 
  MEP vector based. (Is what Tom showed me, mostly)





Revit -- is "completely different" from autocad
  ALSO has a MEP, but it looks completely different.  
  Revit is Farther behind. Only on its  third release.
  But in a couple of years "the POTENTIAL is incredible".

 --AEC (Architecture, Engineering & Construction),

 the biggest, maybe in order, are Autodesk, Dassault Systemes, PTC, and UGS.
 
 Dassault and PTC are entirely MCAD.
 
 Autodesk and UGS (Being now "buried inside" Siemens) are not.
